Banyule Council stamp of APPROVAL: Ivanhoe Medical Centre

A medical centre proposed within a strip shopping centre required a planning permit, as is generally the case for this type of land use within most Victorian planning schemes. While the use is common in established activity centres, it is still subject to assessment to ensure it integrates appropriately with surrounding retail and commercial uses.
This particular proposal was located within the Banyule City Council area, where medical centres are typically supported in principle, provided key planning considerations such as access, parking, and neighbourhood amenity are appropriately addressed.
Our role was to manage the planning permit process and ensure the application was prepared and presented in a way that aligned with Council expectations from the outset. This included reviewing site constraints, confirming compliance with parking and access requirements, and ensuring the supporting documentation clearly demonstrated how the proposal would operate within the existing strip shopping environment.
Timing was an important factor for the client, particularly given the intended relocation to new premises within a busy and active retail strip. Early coordination and a clear planning strategy helped ensure the application progressed efficiently through the assessment process.
While planning regulations are broadly consistent across Victoria, each Council applies them in slightly different ways. Understanding these differences and responding accordingly is an important part of achieving timely outcomes.
The application was ultimately supported by Banyule City Council, allowing the client to proceed with confidence in preparing for their relocation to the new medical centre premises.
