Library Queenscliff

We are pleased to have managed the town planning process for a planning permit issued by Queenscliffe Council for the demolition and buildings and works associated with an extension to the Queenscliff Library, Museum and Information Centre.

The permit allows for the demolition of an existing museum building and outbuilding, alterations and extensions to the existing library building, construction of a new building extension, and removal of trees on a site individually listed within the Heritage Overlay, in accordance with the endorsed plans.

Projects involving heritage-listed sites require careful planning consideration, particularly where demolition, alterations, new built form and vegetation removal are proposed. In this instance, the planning process required a balanced assessment of the site’s heritage significance, the role of the existing buildings, the proposed design response, and the broader community benefit of improving the functionality of this important local facility.

Our role was to provide town planning services and manage the planning permit application process on behalf of the client. This included reviewing the relevant planning controls, preparing the planning submission, coordinating supporting information and liaising with Council throughout the assessment process.

The approved works demonstrate how heritage places can continue to evolve while still being assessed through a careful and structured planning process. The permit will allow the Queenscliff Library, Museum and Information Centre to better support its ongoing community role, while ensuring the relevant heritage, design and planning considerations were appropriately addressed. This successful outcome highlights the importance of early planning advice and clear application management, particularly for complex projects involving heritage controls, demolition, building extensions, tree removal and community infrastructure.
