Queenscliff Council’s APPROVED Community Hub

We were appointed as the consulting town planners for the Borough of Queenscliffe’s Community Hub project in Queenscliff, a significant civic initiative designed to consolidate and enhance community services within a single, accessible facility.
Projects led by local government often carry an additional layer of planning complexity, as they must balance operational needs, community expectations, and strict compliance with the planning scheme. In this case, the proposal required careful consideration of built form, neighbourhood character, accessibility, and how the hub would integrate within the existing urban fabric of Queenscliff.
Our role focused on providing town planning advice and managing the planning permit process on behalf of the project team. This included reviewing the design against relevant planning controls, identifying potential approval risks early, and ensuring the application documentation clearly articulated how the proposal responded to policy objectives.
Given the civic nature of the development, community perception and amenity impacts were also important considerations. The planning approach needed to demonstrate that the hub would support local needs while maintaining the established character of the surrounding area.
Working closely with the design team and Council stakeholders, we supported the progression of the application through the assessment process, ensuring key planning matters were addressed in a structured and transparent way.
The Queenscliff Hub represents a considered outcome for community infrastructure delivery, where planning and design were aligned to support a long-term public asset for the Borough of Queenscliff.
